NEED Canonical Tag Support for On Premise Coveo for Sitecore 8

But I would like to discuss the situation I’m in regarding the challenges I’m having with Coveo Canonical Tag Support.

The ability to capture the canonical value as a field in Coveo and use it as the display URI and de-duplicate using this value is a functionality that we assumed is a best practice for search and out of the box feature of Coveo.

We were very remiss to find we did not have this capability.

We were told this is only available in your cloud solution but we are using your on premise solution. This is a significant gap in capability for us as our SEO team is in the process of refactoring our multiple websites to heavily leverage canonical tags for Organic search and is requiring our internal site search behavior reflect a consistent end to end user experience from external search to internal search.

Is there a way to get us the canonical support in our current implementation.

Solving for the Canonical tag right now…would resolve 75% percent of our current challenges.

This existing limitation could be a blocker to growing our footprint here within our Fortune 50 company.

How can we work with you to get to a solution?

There might be a Sitecore solution to filter out some items that should be considered duplicated, but we first need some details to see if there are alternatives:

  1. Can you give us an example scenario where the canonical tag are used and are not working as expected?
  2. How are these canonical tags implemented in your Sitecore instance? Are they defined in Sitecore fields or are they dynamically created?
