Free search text using the admin panel

Hi There,

I was able to successfully create a free text search field using the custom config files and it is indexable and does return results.

However I wanted to know if this is possible using the CES admin tool in Coveo 4 on perm addition PRO?

Reason I want to do this using admin panel and not config file is client have asked that what if in future they want to create a new free text searchable field using the admin panel?

Hopefully this is an easy step but incase it is not, how we can respond to our client? If it will be part of the future releases or not?

Thanks, Mrunal

Hi Mrunal,

Unfortunately, any change done using the Admin Tool will be overwritten by the next config synchronization of your Coveo for Sitecore.

So if you want to set the free text searchable attribute to a custom field, you need to do it in the config file.

Best regards,

Hi Dom,

Thanks for responding, so looks like the ability is there but when next sync(if i recall it correctly it will be 29 days app pool reset, correct) we will loose the changes, right?

Can you atleast point me to those steps in admin tool?

Thanks Mrunal

The synchronization of the config happens at each indexing operation made by Sitecore (so very often and multiple times per day/hour).

You should never modify the Coveo for Sitecore managed fields from the CES or Coveo Cloud administration tools. Your modification will be lost in a matter of minutes it you do so.

There is no plan in Coveo's roadmap to provide another way to manage the fields than from the configuration files. You always need a developer help to do field modifications.
