Changing a field to support Free Text Search

If we have an index with 800,000 items in it, and we want a field (created by our APi), to be searchable, and we click "Free Text Search", how fast will it take for the results show?

This would be a string text field. Faceted. Not sorted.

We also enabled Ranking.

When you change the free-text searchable property on a field, you have to re-index all the documents who have a value for this field in order to the text to be searchable. This is because a special operation is done at indexing time on the field value when it is marked as free-text searchable.

The time to complete the rebuild will depend on the type of source(s), the size of the documents to index and the resources (CPU, RAM, IO) available on your indexing server if your index is on-premises.

So we're using a push connector to the coveo cloud service with 800,000 items. So I need to re-upload all 800,000 items? There's no way to "reindex" within the cloud without re-uploading?
