Question by vcorvid, May 19, 2017 10:08 PM

Why would suggestions override the query?

Sometimes when I type a query and press enter, the query is hijacked and overridden and another search is run.

This is without selecting a suggestion and retyping the original query and pressing enter will allow the original search to be run which will have results.

It doesn't repeat. It will happen once and then not happen again.

This is very frustrating and I suspect it is a setting that I could disable. Does anyone know what might be causing this? or have encountered it before?

Can it be disabled?

  • Which product are you using?
  • Any custom code? (Do you hook on query building events?)

Could you give us an example of a query that is hijacked and overridden?

I suspect an automatic "Did you mean" correction. If your initial query returns no result and Coveo finds another similar query that yields results, we will automatically correct it to the latter.

@Sébastien Belzile

This happens on the Coveo for Salesforce query box. I am not sure about the Query Building events. How would I inspect that to check?

@Francois - This happens when there are results for the query. That is part of what is so frustrating about it. If you retype and rerun the query results will be returned.

An example this happened on recently would be:

I believe I have discovered the cause of this. When your mouse pointer happens to be over a query suggestion and you press enter to run a query you have typed it selects the suggestion you are hovered over and substitutes it for the query.

This is a confusing experience because I expect to have to manually select suggestions with arrow keys and press enter or to click (not to hover) and press enter. Since you have to click on the query box to enter the query, your mouse pointer is often nearby to cause this behavior unintentionally which is surprising and frustrating.

Does anyone know, can this hover select be disabled?

Well, might be a bug with your version. (Try the behavior you described with the search on this site).

Do you know which JS UI version you are running? Or which exact release of Coveo for Salesforce you have?
