Chatter permissions for guest users

We are implementing a Salesforce Lightning Community and cannot get chatter feed items to display in search results for guest users. Authenticated users can see chatter results without issue.

Is there are a list of what permissions we need to enable to get this working? We're going around in circles a bit following the documentation that we can find.

You should first check what identity is used to perform queries for anonymous users. Looking at the HTTP request that is sent to, grab the JWT token from the Authentication header and use a site such as to decode it. This should give you the email address of the user for anonymous access. This email should map to a valid SF user of some kind.

Then, in the Coveo Admin (, go to the Content Browser, locate a Chatter item and double click on it. In the Permissions tab. This lists all users & groups having access to a particular document. For Salesforce this can be quite complex because they have a very very very (...) complex security model. But feel free to post a screenshot of this here so we can help you better.

Or, even better, feel free to open a support case, this way one of our support specialist will have a look directly.

Thanks Martin, that gets us a bit closer (and taught me something I didn't know). The unauthenticated user doesn't appear in the list of allowed users in the source. I will raise a case to see what needs to happen next.
