Filtering out items and/or set starting location in Sitecore

Hi, I'm trying to set the starting position of a searchpage in Sitecore usning Coveo search. I had a look at https://developers.coveo.com/display/sitecore/Inserting+and+Customizing+a+Search+Interface+Component and it says: 1.Edit the properties of the Coveo Search component. 2.Click on the Edit Rule hyperlink associated with the Filter Expressions

In my installation, the Filer Expression is not there. I'm using Sitecore 7.2 MVC and the Coveo free edition for Sitecore.

The Rule Editor is disabled in the Free Edition. You can use the JavaScript Search Framework to filter the search results instead.

Thank you for your answer. The JavaScript solution is not the way we want to go, as our Editors need to be able to do this within Sitecore. We are trying to evaluate Coveo search to figure out if this is the search engine that we need, but the free edition is clearly not it. I will stop my evaluation until our marketing department get the pricing for the full version or if we need to go another route.

Hi Thomas,

What would make it a good option for you? Is it a matter of configuring by the Page Editor? If we have a few of your needs, we could improve the solution to make it fit on what you need.

Let us know, Vincent

Hi Vincent, Yes, we need to be able to set this in the Page Editor for different pages in the system. Both the starting position and the filter for different searchresults. (perhaps filtering would be enough) Anyways, I have talked to Marketing (Lars Jonsson) and he has sent a request for a price for the Standard Edition, as I really think that your solution is what we want. We will in the near future redo our intranet and I (we ) would love to have one search solution for all our implementations.

Hi Thomas,

Great to know, thanks for the answers. In the Coveo Search component, you can define Additional Parameters, and you could do a little bit of code to leverage this parameter to make sure people would be able to select their starting position for example. Just trying to let you know that this is possible if the Standard Edition is not what you need.
