Accents on Search Results - Can't find entries when no accented query is made

The search query examples page (search query examples page) states that Coveo will take accents into account when doing searchs, but in my installation this is not working. Can you help?

So when I use accents in a query such as "doação" I can see results. But when I use "doacao" instead, all entries with accents are not listed as it should.

Hi Rodrigo, I investigated your issue and you are right; this does not work for diacritics in languages other than French and English.

Your document being detected as Portuguese end up being processed with a pipeline that does not remove diacritics when generating stems.

Does Coveo has any plans to expand this support to languages other than those two?

Not that I'm aware of, sorry.

Technically, this would be pretty easy to quick-fix. However, implementing the correct solution would involve a lot more work.

Are you sure that the entries are not just changing order? The index will favor documents containing the same accent variation but the total number of results matched should not change.

Sorry, I don't have reputation enough to upload images, so I've just improvised these two:

  1. Search with accents
  2. Search without accents

I have an empty list when I search for "doacao" but I can see entries with "doação". My Windows is in english and content is pt-BR - would that be an issue?

Thanks, Rodrigo

Rodrigo, I will fill an enhancement request to address this issue. What is most likely is that we will be able to configure a list of languages for which to perform the same accents processing as we do now for french/english.

Something is coming soon to fix this issue.. I don't have an ETA yet since this will need to be validated with QA,
