Different Indexes for Content Authoring and Content Delivery

Should Content Authoring (CA) and Content Delivery (CD) servers just have 1 index? ie: Does CD need another index, or can they just have a single index for both?

Thanks in advance.

Content Authoring (CA) and Content Delivery (CD) servers should share the same indexes by configuring the <SourceName> element to the same value on all servers. Also configure the <SecurityProviderName> to have the same value on all the servers.

Never index the CD servers!

Simply follow this documentation on how to setup the Indexes section of the Coveo.SearchProvider.config file: https://developers.coveo.com/display/public/SC201507/Scaling+Coveo+for+Sitecore+Over+Multiple+Servers

In brief, you need to:

  • Disable strategies on the CD server
  • Add the SourceName node on your indexes
  • Add the SecurityProviderName and ServerUrl nodes

Cheers,
Simon
