Wildcard search with accent = no result

Hi,

When I'm doing a regular search (no wildcard), Coveo doesn't take care of accent. For example, if I'm searching "Crémazie" or "Cremazie" (without accent), the results are the same.

But, if I'm using wildcard (*), there is a different behavior : "Crém*" will return results but "Crem*" (without accent) will not.

Is it an expected behavior?

Alexandre

Hi Alexandre, This is indeed the desired behavior. The words in the index are not stemmed and are kept as they are in the original documents, but when you query with or without accents, stemming expansion occurs to make sure that relevant variations of the searched keywords are also searched for.

However, when you query using a wildcard expression, you are basically replacing that process, making the expansion yourself using the wildcard expression. That's why it makes a difference to use the accent or not.

Hope this helps.
