IndexReferrerItemsOnUpdate not working

In a previous question, it was suggested that I use IndexReferrerItemsOnUpdate which should causes referrers to get indexed when an item is indexed. I've set this setting to true in my config, but I do not see any additional items getting indexed in the log. Is there additional configuration that I need to do, or am I missing something? Thanks!

Hi,

I'm really sorry for the delay to answer your comment on the other question. I wasn't notified of your reply.

As I said, this setting will index all the items that references the item with a modified name when this one will be indexed. It relies on a Sitecore API to get the referrer items, the LinkDatabase API. If for some reason, your LinkDatabase is not working correctly, Coveo for Sitecore might not be able to find the referrer items and index then along with the modified item.

  • Did you check the Sitecore logs for any errors or suspicious entries regarding indexing when you modify an item?
  • Did you verify you added the IndexReferrerItemsOnUpdate setting in the right parent node of the config?
  • Can you show paste me your IndexReferrerItemsOnUpdate node configuration along with its parent node please?
  • Which version of Sitecore do you use (Major, Minor and revision please)?
  • Which version of Coveo for Sitecore do you use (Major, Minor and revision please)?
  • Which version of Coveo Enterprise Search do you use (Major, Minor and revision please)?

Thank you,

Jeff

No problem. Technology has failed us.

  • I don't see anything in the logs that looks abnormal. The index updates are getting kicked off just fine.
  • I'm not entirely sure I understand what you mean by "parent node" here. I changed to Coveo.SearchProvider.config and turned IndexReferrerItemsOnUpdate from false to true.
  • Same above. Please explain.
  • Sitecore version: 8.0.150223
  • Coveo for Sitecore version: 3.0.1081.0
  • CES 7.0 x64 Build 7711.0

Not yet. I didn't have time to test on your exact version numbers. For points 2-3, nevermind, I thought the IndexReferrerItemsOnUpdate element wasn't in the default configuration file and you had to add it at the right place.

Reminds that this is a Q&A website. Answers might be delayed if nobody knows it on top of his head and have to test with your setup. If you need immediate assistance, please open a support ticket at https://coveocommunity.force.com/s/support

Thanks,

Jeff

Sounds like opening a ticket might be the right path for me. Related question: Is it possible to customize which items get indexed after a publish? Is there a pipeline or something that can be hooked into?

That should be a separate question. Can you post a new one please?
