Problem adding custom field

I've been experimenting with some custom fields for a source built from a sitemap. I added a field and rebuilt the index. Then I deleted the field and cleared all the indexed documents. When I try to add the field back with a different type I get this message:

Custom fields with the same name (sitemapjadapubdate) must have the same type.

How can I add back a field but change its type?

Could you tell me which indexing platform are you using?

We are using Coveo Enterprise Search 7.

Hi ! There is some logic to support changing a field type to another, but some transitions are not possible.

What field types are you using ?

One way to solve the issue is to go in the Administration Tool, in Content / Index Content, and hit Delete Index Content. This will delete the entire index. Of course, depending on your case, it might not possible to do so, but since you mentioned deleting the index documents, I thought it might be possible to do it.
