Unable to install CES on Windows 8.1

I am unable to install CES 7.7814 on Windows 8.1.

Setup want to install Internet Information Services, but it is already installed :) If I go through and agree to install, it wants to reboot, but after the reboot, it still wants to install IIS.

Did anyone experience that ?

I use Windows 8.1 and do not get the issue. However, I can tell you how the bootstrapper works.

The Bootstrapper checks for the following registry keys:

  • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\INetStp\VersionString
  • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp\Components\CoreWebEngine
  • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp\Components\ASPNET
  • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp\Components\BasicAuthentication
  • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp\Components\WindowsAuthentication
  • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp\Components\WMICompatibility
  • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp\Components\Metabase
  • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp\Components\ADSICompatibility
  • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp\Components\LegacyScripts
  • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ASP.NET\2.0.50727.0\Path
  • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ASP.NET\2.0.50727.0\Path

If any of the keys are missing, it will launch the installation of IIS:

  • [SystemDirectory]\pkgmgr.exe /norestart /iu:IIS-WebServerRole;IIS-WebServer;IIS-CommonHttpFeatures;IIS-StaticContent;IIS-DefaultDocument;IIS-DirectoryBrowsing;IIS-HttpErrors;IIS-ApplicationDevelopment;IIS-ASPNET;IIS-NetFxExtensibility;IIS-ISAPIExtensions;IIS-ISAPIFilter;IIS-HealthAndDiagnostics;IIS-HttpLogging;IIS-LoggingLibraries;IIS-RequestMonitor;IIS-Security;IIS-BasicAuthentication;IIS-WindowsAuthentication;IIS-RequestFiltering;IIS-HttpCompressionStatic;IIS-WebServerManagementTools;IIS-ManagementConsole;WAS-WindowsActivationService;WAS-ProcessModel;WAS-NetFxEnvironment;WAS-ConfigurationAPI;IIS-IIS6ManagementCompatibility;IIS-Metabase;IIS-WMICompatibility;IIS-LegacyScripts;NetFx4Extended-ASPNET45
  • aspnet_regiis.exe -i -enable

You can try installing all of the features of IIS and rebooting before trying an installation again.

Otherwise, the installation logs are located at %TMP%\VSD****.tmp, you can have a look at these.
